About ALJ

Welcome to Academic Library Jobs, a mobile-friendly, curated list of jobs for academic librarians.

While there are some great library job sites out there (I Need a Library Job is a favorite, as is the ALA JobList), they have a broader scope than Academic Library Jobs.

The purpose of ALJ is to focus solely on jobs in academic libraries. Occasionally there will be some special library or archives jobs here, even if they’re not in higher ed; those jobs tend to attract academic librarians too. There probably won’t be very many non-MLS jobs here, although a section for those jobs is a possibility in the future. After all, how many of us put ourselves through library school by working full-time in a university library?

There will also be profiles of college towns (see The Vibe), and perhaps some interviews or links to interesting career-related articles. If you’d like to write a profile of your college town (one you currently live in, or have lived in during the last couple of years), drop us a line. You’ll get full credit, a byline, a photo if you want… all that stuff that lets potential employers know more about you.

If you have a job opening that you’d like to post, please use our job submission form or add submissions AT academiclibraryjobs.net to your distribution list.

You can follow ALJ on Twitter or RSS (look up for the buttons to do that). There’s no Facebook or LinkedIn presence yet, but those will come eventually.

The curator, editor, WordPress wrangler, and tweeter of ALJ is Molly Ives Brower (MLIS, University of Oklahoma, 1994). She also serves as the technical director for Communications in Information Literacy and works as an IT consultant.
